Families often have busy live busy lives. Parents are working or cooking or cleaning or watching the kids.
Children have school work, homework, television, extracurricular, friends…you get the idea. Sometimes
students take on too much and are having a stressful time, and sometimes they are just not doing
enough to maximize their days. Have no fear, as these 5 tips below will allow you and your children to
have more balance, productivity and more consistency with important tasks.

Use Calendar/Agenda

It can be easy to forget dates and times for meetings, tests, assignments, soccer practice. These are just
a few of many examples. It is important to be on top of everything we have as it gives us more control and
memory retention. With an inexpensive agenda/calendar or App on phone, it changes guesswork into
confidence.

Say No

Being involved with many different activities is great, however, it can pose as a problem If kids are not
able to stay on top of the important things.

Overcommitting often leads to poor time management. With only 24 hours at hand for each of us, we
must choose wisely what we can commit to and what would get in the way of other high priority
activities. Parents and children may find themselves exhausted and irritated trying to do too much but
not getting the important things done. The key to managing time is to find balance with commitments.

Do Important Things First

Doing the most important task for the day allows you to build huge momentum and tackle the smaller
things with ease. Eating after school is important than homework. Messaging friends, emails, and
games can wait until the end of the day.

If you neglect your main goal until the end, such as studying for your math exam, you will feel extremely
stressed out and overwhelmed. Stress makes studying much more difficult and exhausting. Once you
finish, it might affect your sleep, how you eat, which is a cause for health concern.

Make Time to Relax

Allow yourself some downtime as it is just as necessary as productive time. Use this time to reflect on
how you can optimize your life. As you work towards our goals, sometimes you can forget why you
started in the first place. This downtime allows to reconnect with your “Why” and helps to stay
motivated. Overworking can lead to carelessness and self-destruction. Take short breaks, go for walks,
clear your mind. Once you do that, return back to your activity with improved focus.

Assign Specific Times to Tasks

Setting up a time to study, or partake in hobbies is a great way to achieve time management skills.
When we go with our feelings or procrastinate, we end up creating bad habits. If you were planning to
study between 3 pm and 5 pm then stick to it. Committing to this will allow for more productivity as you
can watch a movie with the family, find time to exercise, and much more. You can also make time for
things like tutoring for Maths and English to catch up in school or to get ahead and secure scholarships.
